La crisis hipotecaria, hasta el momento (octubre de 2008), se ha saldado con numerosas quiebras financieras, nacionalizaciones bancarias, constantes intervenciones de los Bancos centrales de las principales economías desarrolladas, profundos descensos en las cotizaciones bursátiles y un deterioro de la economía global real, que ha supuesto la entrada en recesión de algunas de las economías más industrializadas.
